France - the world's most popular tourist destination - can confidently claim to offer it all, from glamorous beaches and storybook castles to panoramic countryside and city chic. It's a country of dramatic juxtapositions - the expansive boulevards of Paris, the timeless greenery of the Loire Valley, the wide slopes of the Alps, the lavender fields of Provence, the gourmet restaurants of Lyon, the rugged charm of Corsica - and one which, when taken as a whole, presents a near-perfect visitor package.
Paris itself is one of the globe's truly great cities: a multi-layered realm of high fashion, historical riches and haute cuisine. But seen in a wider context, it's just one of many world-class tourist destinations that France has to offer.
France is a perfect destination for the following reasons:
■ Easy access
■ Good mild climate
■ Good infrastructures
■ Land of Culture & Art
■ Exceptional Gastronomy and wines
■ Top Quality hotels
■ Safe Destination
■ French lifestyle & French touch
■ Paris (France Connection headquarters)
The City of Lights is unique, exceptional universally appreciated for the quality of its hotels, the diversity of its cuisine and its savoir faire.
A lifestyle that is reflected in a myriad of ways, be it at a starred restaurant or during a shopping extravaganza in one of the latest designer districts …
■ Champagne (France Connection office)
Champagne in every language is the ultimate symbol of success and celebration. Almost at the gate of Paris (at 45mn from Paris centre by TGV train), the Champagne region offers a diversity of venues and facilities to ensure the perfect setting for any event.
■ Loire Valley (France Connection office)
Drawn by its mild climate and rolling scenery, our French monarchs fell under the spell of the Loire valley and made it their “Valley of the Kings”.
Cradle of royalty and land of poets, the Loire Valley is the quintessence of France’s great cultural heritage with thousands of Castles, but also a land of milk and honey.
■ The French Riviera and Monaco (France Connection office)
The “Côte d’Azur” is home to Cannes, Nice, Monaco… Cities and coastline abound with first class hotels, restaurants, chic “boutiques”, private beaches and luxury houses. But the French Riviera is also the “Provence”, which hearts lays in the hills that bind the sea to the Alps. These are the sloping vineyards, the cultivated lands and the colourful scenery that charmed Cezanne (Aix en Provence),Van Gogh (Arles), Chagall or Giono. In Provence (or the Midi) the local people have a soft singing accent which evokes their whole relaxed lifestyle.
■ Louvre Museum
The Louvre museum, containing one of the most famous art collections in the world, has a history extending back to the medieval times and is today one of the largest and most sprawling museums in the world.
■ Orsay Museum
In 1986, 47 years after it had closed as a mainline railway station, the French government decide to convert the train station in to a major art museum, called Musée d’Orsay. The building is as stunning as the masterpieces of impressionists it houses.
■ The Eiffel Tower
An object of discord, desire and fascination, the Eiffel Tower never fails to impress. It was built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition Universelle and its construction, which lasted 2 years, 2 months and 5 days was a veritable technical and architectural achievement. As France’s symbol in the world, and the showcase of Paris, today it welcomes almost 7 million visitors a year, making it the most visited monument in the world.
VERSAILLES was built during the golden age of French royalty under the Sun King Louis XIV and served as the head quarters of the government from 1682 to 1789 . Versailles owes its reputation to the Sun King’s outstanding Royal residence and grounds. It was the largest and most impressive palace in Europe and housed up to 20 000 people at a time. The guided tour includes the State Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors (where the treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919) as well as free time to wander around in the magnificent formal gardens, with their patterned flowerbeds, fountains and sculptures.
Containing some of the greatest treasures in Europe, France's countryside is prosperous and well tended and it boasts dozens of major tourist attractions including Paris, the French Riviera, the Atlantic beaches, the winter sport resorts of the French Alps, the castles of the Loire Valley, Brittany and Normandy.
France borders Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany to the northeast, Switzerland to the east, Italy to the south-east and Spain to the south-west, and Andorra across the Pyrenees mountains. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the south of France, with the Principality of Monaco forming a small enclave.
